Abstract Submission Guidelines



For the submission and review of MH2014 abstracts, we have chosen to use EasyChair, a web-based conference management system, which should help us considerably with the administration.

EasyChair is quite distinct from the Elsevier Editorial System (EES), which will be used to manage the submission and review of the full papers that are to be considered for publication in a special issue of the Journal of Alloys and Compounds, as described on our Proceedings page.

In EasyChair, we require you to submit two versions of your abstract:

  1. A formatted A4 version, saved as a pdf
  2. The abstract text pasted into the appropriate box in EasyChair

The reason for this is that the correctly formatted version (1) will be used to produce the conference abstract book. This can include a figure, if required, and should be appropriately formatted.

The text version (2), meanwhile, which can simply be cut-and-pasted from the pdf during submission, will be used by us in EasyChair during the review and acceptance process, but also during the preparation of the MH2014 programme.

Abstract Preparation

Please prepare your abstract using the MH2014 abstract template, which can be downloaded as an MS Word document file (*.doc).

Once it is complete, please save it as a pdf file (*.pdf).


Abstract Submission

It is then necessary to register with EasyChair, by following the above link.

Once you have signed up for an account, you will receive an email from EasyChair, asking you to follow a link to create an account. Upon doing so, you will be asked to enter further details. Once you have clicked on the “Create my account” button, you will be able to log in to EasyChair as an author.

In EasyChair, to submit your manuscript, click on “New Submission”. You may have to agree first to the EasyChair Terms of Service but, in this case, once you have done so, please click again on “New Submission”.

You will then be asked to Select a Track:

For contributed papers (oral or poster), please do not select “MH2014 – Plenary”. Instead, please choose the “track” that is most appropriate for your presentation.

The three other tracks refer to the themes “F” (Fundamental properties of metal-hydrogen systems), “M” (Materials involving hydrogen) and “A” (Applications of metal-hydrogen systems) on the Scope page of this website.

Once you have chosen the relevant track and clicked "Continue" you will be taken through to the main submission page. Please fill in the relevant address and author information, as appropriate.

Further down, you will find a “Title, Abstract and Other Information” box:

Please cut-and-paste the text from your abstract document (either the MS Word or pdf version) into the Abstract box, as shown in the screenshot above.

Then, below that, you need to select whether you would prefer to be considered for an oral or poster presentation, although please note that we are only now accepting submissions for posters.

At the bottom of the screen, you will find the following three sections:

Firstly, select the Topic that best suits your presentation. You will be given a choice between the different sub-themes within the main “Track” or theme that you selected originally.

Secondly, upload the pdf of your abstract as a “Paper”. To do this, click on the ‘Browse…’ button to select the file:

Note: Please do not select “Abstract Only”.

Then click “Submit” and wait to hear from us!

Please note that, although the original deadline for both oral and poster presentation abstracts has now passed, we are still accepting poster submissions.

After you have submitted your late poster abstract, we will notify you of our decision in due course.
